"The Wind Harp" takes place about ten years after "A Distant Music" with many of the same characters and the same setting. This book somehow felt somewhat empty. I wasn't able to relate to the characters as well and felt as if the author kinda took an out by making it too focused on the romance (something I had been quite happy to find in a limited qualities in the first book)/5.

The Wind Harp the story of Maggie MacAuley, home for a visit to the small coal town of her childhood, but with no intention of staying.

Her life is at Hull House in Chicago now. There's nothing to keep her in Skingle Creek/5(20). Josephs Studio Garden Wind Chime,Angel with Harp Wind Chimes, 10 inches tall.

In THE WIND HARP, this sequel to A DISTANT MUSIC, author B.J. Hoff takes the story of Jonathan Stuart and Maggie MacAuley a step further, delving deeper into their character and crafting a tale that is truly compelling.5/5(5).

A Wind Harp brings together work from 20 years of performance and publication, with poems selected from three of McQueen’s books: Axis (), Markings (), and Soundings (). Designed as a companion to Fire-Penny, a collection of McQueen poems published in The Wind Harp (#2) The story of Maggie MacAuley, home for a visit to the small coal town of her childhood, but with no intention of staying.

Her life is at Hull House in Chicago now. There’s nothing to keep her in Skingle Creek. The Aeolian Harp (also called a wind or window harp) was quite popular in England and throughout Europe in the early s, and was even reflected in the English poetry of that time.

An ethereal, alien-like musical sound is produced whenever a gust of wind or light breeze blows over the strings causing them to vibrate without human assistance.

A wind harp is just what the name says, a harp played by the wind. You don't need lessons with this instrument, just a light wind will do. This design uses four steel strings and two magnetic pickups made with a pair of nails.

You can build one with just one string with good results. Combining the elements of art, sound, and science, our wind harp sculptures create a sense of place and help you feel more powerfully connected to your surroundings. "Our contemporary outdoor sound sculptures are designed to resonate with the simple beauty, and harmony of nature.".

The harp is rested on the bottom of the window frame, and the sash is brought down upon the upper board.

The air passes in and out between this board and the sounding box, the strings are set in vibration, and so give off that soft, melodious murmur which, in a more subdued tone, is heard near telegraph posts when the wires are shaken by the : Kathy Grimm.

Other Californian Aeolian Harps include the Lucia and Aristides Demetrios Wind Harp, also in San Francisco, which, at 92 feet, is the largest wind harp in the world, and the Solvang Wind Harp.

Aeolian Wind Harps by Mohican Wind Harps Wind harps are as old as civilization. These beautiful stringed instruments are designed to be placed in a breezy spot and played by the natural power of the wind. Their unique, gentle sound makes them a popular addition to many decks, porches, and gardens.

From ancient Greece we read of a stringed box played by Aeolus, god of the wind. In principal, the wind harp is very simple. A number of strings are placed over a sound chamber and the wind causes the strings to vibrate and thereby produce a sound.

The science behind the sound is. Unique Harps. Our unique styles are made in small quantities, usually 2 or 3. All are signed and dated when assembled to your order. The Flower of Life wind harps are new for and are redesigned with a more resonant stringing geometry and sound hole. This harp is available in custom colors along with the a 4′ tall metal base. Small Flower of Life Harp $2, Large Flower of Life Harp $5, Wind Hooters for Your Yard.

Wind Hooters for Your Yard: Its wintertime and the wind is blowing. Make these "Wind Hooters" instead of wind chimes to add errie sounds to your yard. You can turn them off at night by turning the slots away from the wind (if they bother your neighbors).9 pins.

Wind harps transpose the spirit of the wind into spontaneous, multi-layered music in time to nature's rhythms.

/5(11). There's an old gospel song titled "Peace In the Valley." BJ Hoff's latest book puts me in mind of that song. The Wind Harp does not depend upon "sensationalism" to create its moving story; like a cup of ice-cold water on a hot summer day, or sitting under a big old tree by a gently running stream, The Wind Harp draws the reader in to sit for a spell.5/5(5).
